As mentioned above, Nintendo detailed its online subscription service, which launches Sept. 18 along with the 6.0 system update. The service will run $3.99 per month or $7.99 for three months and $19.99 for one year. A family plan is available for two or more accounts (up to seven) at $34.99.

In addition to online play and Switch Online phone app connectivity, the service includes special perks (like some free DLC) and discounts that will be announced in the future. A couple of Splatoon 2 goodies were already announced as part of this, according to GameSpot.

The online service also includes cloud saves for most games (and it was revealed that a lapse in subscription could mean those saves are lost) and rotating NES games that will be included with the subscription. The first 20 games included in the service are listed below and games will all have some sort of online capability that will differ by title:

  1. Balloon Fight

  2. Baseball

  3. Donkey Kong

  4. Double Dragon

  5. Dr. Mario

  6. Excitebike

  7. Ghosts ‘n Goblins

  8. Gradius

  9. Ice Climber

  10. Ice Hockey

  11. Mario Bros.

  12. Pro Wrestling

  13. River City Ransom

  14. Soccer

  15. Super Mario Bros.

  16. Super Mario Bros. 3

  17. Tecmo Bowl

  18. Tennis

  19. The Legend of Zelda

  20. Yoshi

Coming in October:

  1. Solomen’s Key

  2. NES Open

  3. Super Dodge Ball

Coming in November:

  1. Metroid

  2. Mighty Bomb Jack

  3. TwinBee

Coming in December:

  1. Wario’s Woods

  2. Ninja Gaiden

  3. Adventures of Lolo

Lastly, Nintendo revealed a new pair of Joy-Con that will retail for $60 (total for the two controllers). They are styled like the original NES controllers, are wireless and can charge by sliding them onto the sides of the Switch like other Joy-Con (though they do not work in the same way for handheld mode).

Unfortunately, they only work when playing the NES games, which means you need an active subscription to use them. No release date for the controllers was announced but pre-orders for the controllers begin Sept. 18.
