PlayStation 4 Neo expected to be unveiled September 7 (Update)

With the Tokyo Game Show coming up September 15, Sony is reportedly going to unveil the PlayStation 4 Neo ahead of the annual event on September 7 in New York, according to reports from several online outlets including Gameblog and Vice.
No other information is known as to what this event will be or as to what else, if anything, will be announced. Sony’s new PlayStation 4 upgrade, codenamed Neo, is supposed to add 4K support among other features.
However, after Microsoft announced its ambitious Scorpio project at E3, Sony is rumored to be reconsidering the release of the Neo in favor of a system more on par with Microsoft’s vision.
This marks the first time in the history of gaming consoles where systems will get significantly upgraded releases so soon after their initial launch. Consoles have had a long history of getting slimmer, updated versions a while after launch, but, at least with Project Scorpio, it seems console makers are looking to treat the market more like cell phones and continue innovating while supporting the games that are already on the market.
It remains to be seen if the Neo is more on par with the new Xbox One slim, which launched a few days ago, and if Sony may be working on another model that would rival the Scorpio. Stay tuned to SCG for more on the Neo and other upcoming console projects.
