Sega announces Mega Drive/Genesis Collection, coming May 29 (Update)

50 of the greatest Sega classics in one place for PS4, Xbox One and PC

Sega has confirmed that a collection of the best Sega classics from the Mega Drive/Genesis era are coming to PS4, Xbox One and PC via Steam. A version for Nintendo Switch or other handhelds or consoles was not announced.

The collection will feature 50 of the most iconic games to grace the old school console. No word yet on which games will be in the collection, aside from what is shown in the trailer below (Sonic the Hedgehog, Shining Force, Altered Beast and more), but The full list of games is listed below, as posted on the European PlayStation Blog. While nothing was noted, it’s important to point out that the US version’s game list may differ.

The games will feature modern upgrades like online multiplayer, achievements, mirror modes, rewind and save states, according to IGN. Also stated by IGN is that pre-orders will include a “double-sided Golden Axe/Streets of Rage poster.”

Prior to the official announcement, Sega admitted to Game Informer that the company let the announcement slip due to an error. “The gun was jumped a little bit there on the SEGA Genesis Classics announcement,” a Sega spokesperson told Game Informer. The game was later announced on Twitter and is now official.
