Sony shutting down support for DC Universe Online on PS3
The company says the game will continue to receive full support on PS4, Xbox One and PC version unaffected
In an email sent out recently to DC Universe Online players, Daybreak Games and Sony announced that DCUO on PS3 will be shutting down completely on Jan 31, 2018.
Players can transfer all of their content, DLC purchases and subscriptions to the PS4 version simply by logging into the game with the same account, but the email warns that this needs to be done before Jan. 31 to avoid service interruption. It does not make it clear if your progression and other content will be lost for good if you don’t upgrade before Jan. 31.
“In order to deliver the highest quality experience to our players, we will focus our resources on further optimizing the game for PlayStation 4,” the email reads. “While there is still time to continue exploring DCUO on the PS3, we want to give you advanced notice so you can prepare for these future changes.”
The company encourages players to upgrade as soon as possible and to stay tuned to its official site for the game for further updates.
DC Universe Online launched on PS3 and PC on Jan. 11, 2011. The game released on PS4 Nov. 15, 2013 and on Xbox One on April 29 of last year. The most recent numbers for the game, released in late 2014, revealed that the game had 18 million users.
