You can now purchase gaming socks — yes, socks

Ever wanted a special pair of socks for those long gaming sessions? Yeah, neither have we

Remember when you could buy special sunglasses for gaming? And who could forget all those video game rocking chairs that were all the rage a few years back? Well, now there are gaming socks. Yes, socks.

PC Gamer reports that Puma, the brand behind some of the most popular footwear around, has a new product dubbed “Active Gaming Footwear” for those long sessions of, well, sitting around and playing games.

In US currency, the socks cost about $105 and look sort of like a mix between Crocs and Vibram athletic shoes.

According to an official listing for the socks on Puma’s EU website, the socks were “created with console gamers in mind.”

Though, we must say we’re not really sure what that means. And further explanation from Puma doesn’t really clear things up.

“The gaming sock is the first edition Active Gaming Footwear,” the listing reads. “Designed for indoor and in-arena use, it delivers seamless comfort, support and grip so gamers can adapt to different active gaming modes and game their best.”

Furthermore, they’re referred to as socks in the listing, but they look more like lightweight shoes.

Perhaps something was lost in translation with Puma being a German company, but we’re not sure you could fit a shoe around these things and they appear to be padded on the bottom for use as their own foot coverings.

And for some reason, they have three different modes, according to the listing, which include:

  1. Medial wrap-up grip in SEEK mode

  2. Lateral wrap-up support in ATTACK mode

  3. Heel wrap-up stability in CRUISE and DEFENSE mode

The listing also says the socks feature, “TPU skin added support, engineered knitted upper for comfort and breathability, custom last sock-like fit, outsole [for] low profile rubber outsole for grip [and an] insole [with] two densities foams co-molded with a non-woven layer to improve comfort and increase torsion control.”

The footwear doesn’t appear to be available on the US Puma site at this point in time and there’s no word if they ever will be.
